Sleepers
We recommend a suitable foundation is laid for all sleepers which will allow any surface water to drain away freely.
Softwood sleepers can be cut with a good handsaw and we recommend that any cut faces are re-sealed with 2 liberal coats of a good quality preservative. To help prolong the life of these sleepers we also recommend that a D.P.M liner is used – this will act as a waterproof barrier between the timber and the soil.
The most popular method of fixing sleepers together is by bricklaying your joins and securing them together with index screws.
